Meet the Performers – Rejus, Violin

We are delighted that Rejus will be performing at our ‘Jess Gillam and Friends’ concert on 7 May. Rejus was a Scholar with LMF from 2013 through Barking and Dagenham Community Music Service, and became a LMF Senior Scholar in 2022. Rejus has taken part in several LMF events as a graduate over the last few years, most notably leading the Celebration Ensemble at our 10th Anniversary Gala in February 2022, and he now studies violin at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

Tell us about your experience of being a LMF Scholar

Being a LMF Scholar has been an incredible journey for me. Since joining and receiving the Scholarship in 2014 and receiving the Senior Scholarship award in 2022, I've seen a significant positive impact on my musical development. The London Fund has provided invaluable financial support, mentorship, and opportunities for me to grow as a musician. Through their guidance and resources, I've been able to access quality training, participate in prestigious events, and connect with fellow musicians, all of which have contributed immensely to my growth and success.

What are you looking forward to about the concert?

I am eagerly looking forward to the concert as it presents an opportunity for me to showcase the skills and talents I've cultivated through the support of The London Music Fund. It's not just about performing on stage; it's about sharing my passion for music with the audience and conveying the dedication and hard work that has gone into honing my craft. Additionally, I'm excited to connect with other LMF musicians who share a similar love for the art form.

What does playing music mean to you?

Playing music is more than just a hobby or skill for me; it's a fundamental aspect of my identity and a source of immense joy and fulfillment. Music serves as a means of expression, allowing me to convey emotions, tell stories, and connect with others on a deeper level. It serves as a form of therapy during challenging times and a source of inspiration during moments of creativity. Ultimately, music is woven into the fabric of my life, influencing my thoughts, actions, and perspectives in profound ways.

What impact do you think music has on the world?

Music holds the power to transcend boundaries, unite diverse communities, and evoke universal emotions. It serves as a language that speaks to people across cultures, generations, and backgrounds. Music has the ability to inspire change, foster empathy, and create lasting memories. Whether it's through uplifting melodies, thought-provoking lyrics, or captivating performances, music has the capacity to shape societies, ignite movements, and bring about positive transformations in the world.

What is your dream performance?

One of my ultimate aspirations, and I’m sure others would agree as well, is the iconic stage of the Royal Albert Hall. The history of this venue coupled with its phenomenal acoustics makes it a dream destination for any musician. Performing at the Royal Albert Hall would not only be a personal milestone but also a testament to years of hard work, dedication, and artistic growth. It would be an honor to share my music with audiences in such a prestigious and iconic setting, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
