Genesis’ Playing Day Poem!

Genesis is one of our 2022-26 Scholars from Barnet Education Arts Trust. He was our October Scholar of the Month, so you can read more about him here.

Genesis came to our Spring Playing Day led by Beth Higham-Edwards, musicians from the London Chamber Orchestra, and our very own Senior Scholars. He had such a fantastic day that he was inspired to write a poem about it!

We were absolutely over the moon to receive this brilliant poem.

Saxophone on Stage

Genesis trying out the vibraphone after performing on his saxophone

I was in a saxophone band
So tricky to stand
Did music with my body
Thought it was gonna be floppy
Listened to some music
I thought my Pinky was too thick
Doing a lot of practicing
Nothing will distract us
Had a little snack break
A big ben sound I could make
Working super-duper hard
Kinda like a yard
We all had something to eat
It was a great treat
We were doing a honk
Car honk conk
Honk honk honk
Donk donk donk
We are rehearsing
But we are not reversing
Showing our talent
Sitting so balanced
They were amazing
I was blazing
Everyone was OUTSTANDING
It was so understanding
Having a nice think
And a water that I could drink
Getting ready for our performance
Because it was very important
All the parents were there
So many songs to share
Everyone was watching me
I thought this wasn’t meant to be
But I tried my best
And put it to the test
It was time
For the musicians to shine
So much inspiration
Also some concentration
That was incredible
A masterpiece that is unforgettable
It was complete
In the jazz music street.
