The Big Give Christmas Challenge 2022
It’s that time again… the biggest fundraising campaign of the year, the Big Give Christmas Challenge! We are delighted to be taking part in the 2022 campaign, once again supported by our friends at The Childhood Trust. For a whole week, donations you make to the London Music Fund are matched by The Childhood Trust, giving us the chance to raise £32,000 for our Scholarship programme, and giving you the chance to have your donation doubled, with twice the impact for young musicians!
What is the Big Give Christmas Challenge?
The Big Give Christmas Challenge is the UK's largest online match funding campaign. The campaign is run by the Big Give online donation platform and has raised over £150 million since it started. Because of the match funding available, the campaign is a fantastic way to make your donations to charity go twice as far.
How does it work?
During Giving Week (29 November - 6 December), online donations to our Big Give Christmas Challenge campaign page will be matched by The Childhood Trust. That means if you donate £100, that donation is doubled to £200, and if Gift Aid is claimed, that’s £225 which we receive for our Scholarship programme for children from low-income families. All donations are matched until the match funding runs out, which happens if we meet our overall target of £32,000. If we don’t reach our target by the end of Giving Week (12 noon on 6 December), then some of our match funding goes to waste!
Who matches the online donations?
The match funds used to double your donations comes from two funding pots: funding that we have secured in the run up to the campaign thanks to the generosity of our Trustees, and funding from our campaign 'Champion', The Childhood Trust.
When does it all start?
The live campaign kicks off on #GivingTuesday (Tuesday 29 November 2022) at midday. It ends a week later on Tuesday 6 December at midday.
Why should I donate to the London Music Fund?
We are raising funds for our Scholarship programme for young Londoners from low-income families. We award four-year Scholarships to talented young musicians who otherwise wouldn’t be able to continue learning beyond free whole class tuition in primary school. LMF Scholars are able to fulfil their potential and develop their talent thanks to access to 1-1 instrumental lessons, instrument hire, membership to suitably challenging ensembles, a dedicated Mentor from their Music Service, and inspiring performance opportunities, for four years.
This year we awarded 100 new Scholarships, our largest cohort since 2014. We would love to be able to award this many Scholarships again next year, but in order to do that we need your help! It’s simple: the more money we raise in this campaign, the more young musicians we can support.
The impact of our Scholarship programme is wide-reaching and life-changing. Our Impact Report is full of amazing success stories from our current & graduate Scholars, and you can read a few testimonies from them and their parents here:
Count me in! How do I donate?
Donate directly to our campaign page any time from Tuesday 29 November at midday (#GivingTuesday) and Tuesday 6 December at midday. But remember that match funds are limited; get your donation in early to ensure it’s doubled and goes that extra mile!
Thank you!
As a small charity with just three members of staff, fundraising is a huge challenge and we are hugely grateful to our wonderful supporters. Thank you so much in advance for helping us with our 2022 Christmas Challenge campaign. Every donation really will make a difference to young musicians across London, no matter how small.
