Celebrating Amplify 2024: Girls of Grime - ‘Big Sister Circle’
We’re delighted to celebrate the success of one of our Amplify 2024 projects: Girls of Grime’s ‘Big Sister Circle'!
Independent female-led grassroots organisation Girls of Grime strives to steer change towards gender balance within the music industry. Their 'Big Sister Circle' project empowered at-risk and vulnerable young women through music by fostering community with an initiative that explored music career pathways, focusing on artist development, content creation, marketing, and live event production.
The project involved 3 stages: Recording - where participants worked in a professional studio, contributing to the creation of a new record and gaining experience in potential career pathways as an artist or producer; Promotion - providing behind-the-scenes insights into content production and marketing processes, exploring career pathways in marketing, PR, or social media management and finally the Release stage which culminated in the 'Big Sister Circle' brunch and listening event for track ‘FEARLESS’ - a powerful showcase of the talent and creativity cultivated throughout the program. Since the release of the music video, ‘FEARLESS’ has gained significant attention across social media and is now available on major platforms such as YouTube and Instagram.

Participant Olivia found the project an ‘invaluable opportunity’ to boost her confidence in finding a career in the music industry. She states: ‘Engaging with the Big Sis mentors and hearing their career journeys has reaffirmed that I’m on the right path. Spending time with other young women who share the same goals has made me realise I’m not alone in this journey - I’m doing all the right things, and I will get there! I’m incredibly grateful for the experience, wisdom, and personal growth the Big Sister Circle has given me.’
Survey results also showed that the programme delivered a significant increase in confidence in pursuing a music industry career to participants, as well as in self-esteem & personal confidence and in feelings of empowerment to follow career aspirations .
London Music Fund is incredibly proud to have supported this progressive and inspiring project - we wish all the best to the talented young women of Girls of Grime in their music careers!
Thanks to extra support from Big Creative Education, the participants were also able to attend We Out Here Festival. This exciting opportunity greatly enriched the program by allowing participants to foster deeper connections, strengthen teamwork, and build camaraderie. The festival environment offered a unique platform for participants to perform their music live, leading to the successful creation of the ‘FEARLESS’ music video. This hands-on, experiential component not only aligned with Girls of Grime’s original goals but also amplified the program's overall impact, creating memorable moments that supported both personal growth and professional development.
